Sammy’s Heating & Air was created to provide customers the best value by giving people a professional in their home that they can actually trust. Really, we were built with the idea that if you give out goodness and positivity and help that eventually those things will come back to you.

The State of the Industry

Industry-wide, I saw a huge incentive to push technicians and other employees to sell things that customers didn’t need.

I remember one specific time I was sitting in a training meeting of a different HVAC company. One of the things they said that was when a customer took out their wallet, try to take a look inside and, if you see money in there, you try and to get it all – try to take every dollar. This same company taught me, when you try and sell a system – sell it for as much as you possibly can. You will be surprised at how people will pull money out from all sorts of places – they have money, don’t let them kid you. These meetings were trying to teach us how to take advantage of people.

I had never looked at the world that way before. I had only ever sold people what they needed and, as a result, that particular company felt like I was a lot less profitable than they wanted.

Professionalism and Integrity at the Right Price



No Commissions

Upon founding Sammy’s, my initial action was to eliminate all commission structures. I aimed to ensure that no one would feel pressured to sell products to customers that were unnecessary for them. This decision stemmed from a deep-seated belief in prioritizing customer well-being over short-term sales goals. I wanted to create an environment where employees could focus on genuinely understanding the needs of each customer, rather than being driven by the potential for personal financial gain.

By removing commission-based incentives, I sought to foster a culture of trust and integrity within the team. I envisioned a workplace where employees felt empowered to provide honest recommendations, even if that meant suggesting a less expensive or even no product at all. This approach not only aligned with my values but also aimed to build long-lasting relationships with our customers, who would appreciate the transparency and care they received.



Stay until the job is done right

I have always believed that when we take on a job, we should focus on completing it thoroughly before moving on to the next task, rather than being preoccupied with what comes next. This philosophy stems from the understanding that each task we undertake deserves our full attention and effort. When we immerse ourselves in the current job, we not only enhance the quality of our work but also cultivate a sense of pride and accomplishment in what we have achieved.

By concentrating on one task at a time, we minimize the risk of errors and oversights that often arise from divided attention. It allows us to engage deeply with the details, fostering creativity and innovation as we explore all possible solutions and approaches. Moreover, this focused mindset can lead to a more satisfying work experience, as we can see the tangible results of our labor before shifting our focus elsewhere.



Relationships

I believe that relationships are important including getting to know people. When we go to a home, it isn’t just about the furnace – it is about our customer and the relationship with them.

It isn’t just about our relationship with the customers either, as we develop relationships with our suppliers, when we go to supply houses, we are building relationships with these people that are helping us help our customers.

As we have relationships with everyone, we can make everything more seamless. Our customers trust us because we love them. Our supply houses take care of us because we are patient and kind to them.



Only sell what we believe in

Almost all of the equipment we suggest has been previously installed in one of our residences. This hands-on experience is invaluable, as it allows us to provide our clients with recommendations that are not only based on theoretical knowledge but also on practical application. We place a strong emphasis on staying current with the latest technology in the HVAC industry, and we take great pleasure in conducting thorough tests to evaluate the performance and reliability of various systems.

When we install a furnace or air conditioning unit for a client, we want to make it clear that they are not our experimental subjects; rather, we have already implemented the system in one of our own homes and have rigorously tested it ourselves. This approach ensures that we have a comprehensive understanding of the products we offer, including their strengths and potential weaknesses.


